Caleb's Blessing - Joshua 14:7, 10-11

Click to play the audio .. “I was 40 years old when Moses the Lord’s servant sent me from Kadesh-barnea to scout the land, and I brought back an honest report.” “As you see, the Lord has kept me alive these forty-five years as he promised, since the Lord spoke this word to Moses while Israel was journeying in the wilderness. Here I am today, eighty-five years old. I am still as strong today as I was the day Moses sent me out. My strength for battle and for daily tasks is now as it was then. Joshua 14:7, 10-11 (CSB) Things don’t always go right. In fact, sometimes they go off the rails. Even when we do it right. (But they never go off God’s rails.) Think about Caleb. Caleb was one of the spies that Moses sent to the land of Canaan. He explored the promised land with the other spies, and he was excited about what God was doing for them. He came back with a good report. Why? Because he trusted what God would do. But most of his fellow spies came back with a bad report. Th

You are Light in the Lord - Ephesians 5:8-10

For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light, for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness, and truth. Test and prove what pleases the Lord. Ephesians 5:8‭-‬10 For His Pleasure I was once darkness. Now I am light in the Lord. That's not "Super Christian;" that is me. Paul is telling the whole Ephesian church that they are light in the Lord.  I am light in the Lord. Yet, I only understand that a little bit.  I know that it includes things like honesty, wisdom, and courage. All of which I feel I lack. But see, He has begun a good work in me. And by His grace, I desire for Him to keep doing it. Never stop! Now what I think is happening is that the Lord is growing a capacity in me for these things, but I don't always see it. He is making me good. He is making me honest. He is making me righteous.  Why? For His own good pleasure. That’s why. He shows what He can do with me, and then, others get excited about

Light of the World - John 8:12

Jesus spoke to them again: “I am the light of the world. Anyone who follows me will never walk in the darkness but will have the light of life.” John 8:12 Catch My Drift I am a child of God, yes! And it’s beautiful. Yet, sometimes I stray. I drift. I wander. Maybe just a little ways at first. Then, I can find myself so far, so fast that I wonder what hit me. I just walk off like a two year old in the mall. But there’s a thing that happens. When I get used to walking in the light, I understand it better, I look for it, I breath it. I believe Jesus is with me. I see because of the light. And I can start to see my drift. And because of my memory of deep and lasting hurt, I can go back, seeking him, knowing that I certainly can depend upon Him. At all times. Every single day, good or bad. So at my best, I encourage, in my spirit, a quick return to Him when I’ve gone off. A Friend With All of the Answers And at my best, those wanderings get smaller. And I can only see th

Must Believe He Exists - Hebrews 11:6

And without faith it is impossible to please God, for he who comes to God must believe that He exists and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. Hebrews 11:6 Faith Comes in Amounts This is a sit-up-and-pay-attention verse for believers. I mean, the word believer implies that one has faith, right? And faith comes in amounts. Some have lots of faith. Some have less. In the bible, Jesus commends the Roman who knew that Jesus could heal his child without seeing her. At another time he says, "Oh, you of little faith." And in the book of Mathew, He says says how much they could do with just a bit of faith, the size of a mustard seed. To me, my faith feels embarrassingly small. And I think I attach that to what God wants to do for me and with me. That has much to do with why I write this devotional every day. I want to increase my faith and my knowledge of who I am in Christ. The verse says something important. We can't please God without faith. I want to plea

Fulfill All Your Good Desires - 2 Thessalonians 1:11‭-‬12

We always pray for you that our God would count you worthy of this calling and with power fulfill all your good desires and works done by faith, so that the name of our Lord Jesus Christ may be glorified in you, and you in Him... 2 Thessalonians 1:11‭-‬12 Praying For Believers It is a blessing to get to draw near to God. And I get to pray for other believers. This verse teaches me how I can pray for them, and more importantly what I can expect from God. When I say "expect" that might sound disrespectful. But what I mean is that He reveals through the apostle Paul what He wants me to ask. 1. I can pray that God counts you worthy of this calling. 2. I can pray that He fulfills ALL your good desires. 3. I can pray that He fulfills ALL of your works done by faith. 4. I can pray that Jesus be glorified in you. 5. I can pray that you be glorified in Him. When I Pray First, I can pray that God counts you worthy of this calling; there is a strong expectation that He answers that pr
